Blue Whole Gallery artists are expected to have a web presence on this site; there is no fee for this service. The variety and excellence of your work will help the public understand what treasures can be found at the gallery.
- Your web page will actually be hosted on a parallel site: www.olympicartists.org. This allows other galleries to point to your work in a "neutral" location.
- If you own your domain (www.MeArtist.com) and would like help pointing it to this web page, let me know. Mary Franchini owns www.MaryFranchini.com; that address points to her page here. This makes her business cards a little less cluttered.
- We'll be working together at three different times:
- When you're new to the gallery, and need to get your work up on the web for the first time
- When you are featured artist of the month, and need to update your page.
- When you've completed a significant body of work, and need a major revision. Try to keep these to a minimum, maybe once a year maximum. "Sold" images can stay on your page - they are representative of the work you do.
- I generally do Blue Whole website updates just prior to first Friday.
- Take a look at the artist web pages listed here on the Blue Whole site. We use a shared template for continuity that can accommodate up to 18 thumbnail images. Right now, there is a mix of older and newer style templates. I'm updating everyone to the newer style as they become featured artists. Take a look at Lynne's page for an example of the newer template.
- The words for your web page should be submitted electronically, either in the body of an e mail, or in an attached Microsoft Word file. Straight, unformatted (dull and boring) text is best. A scanned page of text does NOT constitute "electronic" transfer, since we just don't have time to convert a "picture" of text into something that can be edited easily.
- The photos of your art should be of good quality, with all cropping and color adjustments complete. Please send these files as an e mail attachment or on a CD as a .jpg, .tif, or .psd (photoshop file) format ONLY. Do NOT embed them in a Microsoft Word document. Be aware that MS Word and some e mail programs have been set to compress files automatically, making the quality marginal. If you're not an expert in preparing images from the web, plan on sending me image file sizes of 100k to 500k and I will size them down for you.
- When you have CHANGES to your page, be VERY EXPLICIT. It's helpful to have an e mail that says: "on page XXX where it now says YYY replace it with ZZZ". Please keep changes to a minimum. I must regenerate your page each time you need to add or remove images. However, changing text on your front page is much simpler.
- If your only source of images is from a print or slide, these can be scanned at local businesses, or I can work with you.
- Linda Gleason and Mary Franchini are web points of contact for the gallery.
